Wrap styles and settings

Set up the wrap styles shoppers can pick, and the message, recipient and whole-order options. Also explains the hidden Gift wrap product the app keeps in your catalog.

Wrap styles

Open Wrap styles from the app's navigation. Each style is one row: a thumbnail, the name, the action that sets its picture, the price (or Free), a switch that offers it to shoppers, and a handle to drag it into the order shoppers see. Choose the name to open the style; choose Close to shut it. Choose Add a style at the bottom to add one.

Every change saves on its own the moment you leave the field. If a change is not saved, the row tells you what to fix. Choose Try again when it is offered.

Each style has:

Delete style, inside the open style, removes it from the storefront. Past orders keep the style name and it still prints on their pack sheets.

Every change publishes to your storefront within a minute. After it saves, allow up to a minute, then reload your storefront to check the change.

Choose Preview to see the widget on one of your products without changing your store. Preview uses your store prices and the default words. Check your storefront for your own wording, placement and each market's prices.

Changing a price

There is no price lock. A shopper who already has wrap in the cart pays the style's price at checkout, not the price when they added it. Completed orders keep the amount they were charged.

For paid wrap, shoppers see Shopify's price for their market. It can differ from your store price. The cart shows the fee after discounts.

The hidden Gift wrap product

Shopify checkout can only charge for products. So the app creates one product in your catalog called Gift wrap. It has one option, Style, with one variant per wrap style. When a shopper picks a paid style, the widget adds that variant to the cart as a separate line, one unit per wrapped item.

What to know about it:

If a shopper removes the fee line from the cart, the widget clears the wrap from the matching items and shows a notice. That also removes those items' messages and recipients. Whole-order notes stay. If the fee product is added to the cart on its own, without a wrapped item, the widget removes it.

See Discounts and fees for how discounts treat this product, and Uninstall and your data for what happens to it when you leave.

Gift settings

Open Settings from the app's navigation. Each change saves on its own and publishes to the storefront.

Gift message

On by default. When on, a shopper who wraps an item can write a message for it. Units on the same wrapped cart line share a message and recipient. To give them different messages, the shopper adds them separately. The message prints on the pack sheet word for word.

Turning this off hides item messages. Recipient names and the whole-order note keep their own settings.

A shopper can send a message without wrap. They open Add gift wrap, leave the styles unselected and write the message. Keep at least one style on, or the product page choice does not appear.

Message length

A whole number from 50 to 500 characters. Default 200. The widget stops the shopper at this length. Some emoji use more than one character of the limit.

Recipient name

On by default. Adds a For field under the message. The name is a label: it shows as "For Priya" in the cart and prints on the pack sheet beside the message, so the packer knows who the unit is for.

A recipient name does not group items. Two wrapped units with the same recipient are still two packages, each wrapped on its own. The app does not ship to more than one address.

This is a gift

On by default. Adds a This is a gift toggle to the cart page with an optional message for the whole order.

This is an instruction for the packer, not a package. It adds no fee, and it does not wrap anything. It prints as a card on the pack sheet. Wrapping a whole order as one package is not in this version.

Use the cart's normal Checkout button for whole-order notes. Buy it now and accelerated checkout buttons can skip those choices. With paid wrap, the app adds the items to the cart before opening checkout. Item wrap and messages are carried.

No prices in the box

On by default. Adds a No prices in the box checkbox under This is a gift. When the shopper ticks it, the pack sheet says so. Shopify's packing slip is not changed by the app; your team decides what goes in the box.

Which products

Choose where gift options show: All products, Only the products you choose, or All products except the ones you choose. Choose products opens your product list; you can pick up to 250. The change saves by itself and reaches your storefront in a few seconds.

Remove gift options

At the bottom of the Settings page. It turns gift options off on your storefront and archives the Gift wrap fee product. Existing cart lines and orders are left alone, and you can still use the Gift orders page and pack sheets. The app does not touch your theme; you remove the app blocks and turn off the app embed in the theme editor yourself. Changing any option, or switching a style on, turns gift options back on. See Uninstall and your data.

What shoppers see

On the product page: Add gift wrap, then the wrap styles, Gift message and For. If the quantity is more than one, a line such as Wrap 1 of 3, change lets them wrap some units and leave the rest plain.

In the cart: wrapped and plain units of the same product show as separate lines, each with its own quantity. On a wrapped line the shopper chooses Edit to change it, or Remove gift options to take the wrap, message and name off. In the cart drawer, Edit gift options opens the cart. Paid wrap shows as a line Gift wrap with the style name, one unit per wrapped item.

If a shopper removes a wrapped item and adds it again, it arrives plain. They pick wrap again if they want it.

Products you left out under Which products, products tagged no-gift-options and gift cards never show the option.

On the Free plan, a line Gift options by Fairstride shows under the widget. Paid plans do not show it.
